Questions to consider posed by Mr. Denham
1) Why did Hitler hate Stalin so much (and why was the feeling returned)?
2) Is it possible for there to be Divine Intervention in the hell of war?
3) Why is this photo Mr. Denham’s favorite?

1) Hitler hated Stalin because Stalin was a major hinderance to Hitler’s hope for world domination. Stalin also wanted the power that Hitler fought for, but sided with the Allies just to keep Hitler from getting because he was not really for the Allied cause. Throughout the war, they backstabbed each other as in the non-aggreession pact over Poland because they both wanted world power.
2) I believe that God can intervene in war as he did, perhaps, in the winter when the Nazis invaded Russia. I tend to believe, though, that God raises up the leaders who make their own decisions of free will that lead to war and to peace. Overall, though, I think that God probably stays out of the whole thing and lets humans do what they want, even if it saves or destroys them.
3) This photo is Mr. Denham’s favorite because two of the people resemble his mother and brother and it serves as a reminder for him that this has happened in history and it can happen to a country like the United States if we are not careful of protecting our freedoms.
1) The reason why Hitler and Stalin were against eachother was not only the fact that they weren’t allies, but mainly because of their views. Hitler couldn’t be more different than Stalin’s communist figure. Both leaders had completely different views of the world.
2) I would say yes, assuming the fact that I understand the question fully. I would most certainly say that there is some input from the Divine, possibly in the aiding of a cause or a side of war. I do believe that it is possible for God to be a part of the hell of war.
3) From the lecture in class I understood that this picture was Mr. Denham’s favorite because it showed the defenseless faces of the fleeing citizens of Danzig. There was definately a resemblance between the faces of the women and the faces of a loved family member. The overall reason would be the fact that an emotional connection was made between the faces of these women to a friend or relative.
1)Hitler would have hated Stalin for several reasons. Among them was the fact that the two leaders subscribed to radically opposed political philosophies. Another factor of hatred between the two men would be because of their desire for control and power which caused friction between the interests that both men held for their respective countries.
2) If one believes that God controls the universe as well as life itself, then war or anything that would happen in our reality is simply an expression of that control which we cannot fully understand. From a human perspective, any event that would oppose the stress and fear imposed on our minds by war could be interpreted as pure, holy, and inspired by God.
3) Mr Denhan likes this photo because the women remind him of members of his family (one of the women cut out from the photo reminds him of his own mother). This photo is also favored because of the question it poses: “What if such devastation were to happen in our own country?”
1) Hitler hated Stalin for two main reasons, Facism and Communism are the polar ends of political spectrum. Also, they saw a piece of each other in the other one, and were both threatend by the other.
2) To be 100% truthful, I do not totally understand the question. But good things do happen in war, medically, but it also forms the bond of brotherhood. War is Hell
3) This picture shows the relevance to today. That boy could be your relative, and that woman your mom. It shows that this could happen again, but we have to work to avoid that happening.
1) Why did Hitler hate Stalin so much (and why was the feeling returned)?
They hated one another because they were both so similar in who they were and their ambitious drive for power. They had some conflicting views about government, but were very much alike.
2) Is it possible for there to be Divine Intervention in the hell of war?
Yes, often in the Bible God has ordered and taken an active roll in warfare.
3) Why is this photo Mr. Denham’s favorite?
He said it reminded him that it looked like his mother carrying him or his brother, with out a father whose off at war. It reminds him that he would never want that kind of conflict and hardship to come around again.
